Man, I just don’t know… I feel very strongly about David Lynch and at the risk of incurring the wrath of die hard Lynch fans…I am not feeling this at all. Here’s the thing. I love Lynch. I love almost every single thing I have seen that he has put his hands into, from his directing and writing work to his animation and photography… Even Twin Peaks, which some consider pretty fluffy (EVEN SEASON TWO - don’t judge) is amazing. Love it.
This… I don’t wanna say too much; I would love to hear what you think, but damn if it doesn’t seem like a first year film student version of a fashion film “in the style of David Lynch.” Too harsh? Am I a hater? It’s just. so. literal. Good lord, even a blue rose? Like a HUGE one? I know I am concentrating on the negative, but I am kinda disappointed. Am I missing the joke? Is David Lynch laughing his way to the bank? Yes, probably. Do all the people in the film especially Marion Cotillard look gorgeous? Yes. Does it still feel weird…and not in a good Lynch-y way? Yes it does. I guess I am partly excited to see him involved with a fashion house’s creative team but i guess i would have been happier to see him working with a more avant-garde or homespun company…but I guess someone has to pay the bills!
